Hey People! Linda Kelly here. Welcome to Haight Street Voice Radio. Our studio is located at the historic Doolan-Larson Building, which is at the iconic corner of, yep, you guessed it: Haight & Ashbury! Ever grateful to the San Francisco Heritage for bringing me in for a “Radio-in-Residency” through the end of the year in this gorgeous space, where I’m conversing with some awesome folks from the past, the present, and the future of Haight Ashbury — a place I call Home. I care about this neighborhood from the core of my heart, and invite you to do the same.
Haight Street Voice Radio is gonna be free-form, it’s gonna be weird, we’re gonna talk to a bunch of incredibly interesting folks, and we’re gonna let our freak flags fly — cuz ain’t that what it’s all about?
Thanks for tuning in to Haight Street Voice Radio, y’all! We’re a community-rooted platform whose goal is to elevate modern counterculture and build audience engagement through compelling, place-based storytelling – then & now. Welcome!
— Linda Kelly, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Haight Street Voice + Host of Haight Street Voice Radio
EPISODE #11: Alex Carlin of the Bay Area’s legendary band, the Psycotic Pineapple, activist
I met Alex in the mid-’70 at the Keystone Berkeley, when he was playing gigs along with Greg Kihn, the Rubinoos, Jonathan Richmond, Earthquake and Eddie Money. Alex is still playing guitar, now all over the world, and using his music as a way to heal the planet — from Russia to Brazil to the Bay Area and beyond.
EPISODE #10: Ben Fong-Torres, Rolling Stone journalist, SF radio personality
What a treat to have Ben Fong-Torres up at Haight Street Voice Radio studio. Ben was my teacher a bazillion years ago at SF State Journalism school, and now my friend, mentor, and inspiration. What an honor to hang with this SF legend. Love ya, Ben!
EPISODE #9: Edie Wade Shares Stories about Music, Art, Love, and Community
Our cover story for Haight Street Voice Fall 2025 print edition! Edie Wade and I met three years ago as I often sit and work on my stoop here in the neighborhood and she walks by with her little dog Pumpkin. We spoke of her late husband Michael, a lovely man who grew up in the Haight in the ‘50s, and lived at 1438 Page Street for 46 years. Edie mentioned his grandmother, local watercolor artist (and chiropractor!) Marjorie Beryll Stevens, and I was smitten with her journey. Here’s a glimpse of it — along with the enchanting story of Edie and Michael — as Edie was so kind to share.
EPISODE #8: Christian Beaulieu, Co-Owner of soon-to-reopen Deluxe on Haight!
Come hang a while with me and Christian Beaulieu on a super-hot Indian Summer day, co-owner of The Deluxe music venue on Haight at Ashbury — originally opened here at the corner of Haight & Ashbury back in 1978 — which is re-opening in just a few months! Christian is kind, full of cool info — and hilarious! We had a blast. See you at The Deluxe!!!
EPISODE #7: Wes Wakeford and Connor Frederick of The Green Heron (the old Hobson’s Choice)
Though we’re sad to see Hobson’s Choice go, very stoked that the new owners coming in sincerely care about the vibe, the culture, and the “extreme people watching” beauty of this vibrant corner venue on Haight and Clayton. Welcome The Green Heron!
EPISODE #6: Peterson Harter of Sandy’s Mufalettas on Haight
We love this New Orleans native! Peterson brings the love, the positivity, the love of music and … over-the-top delicious food from his Louisiana roots. Peterson, we’re so stoked you’re a part of this neighborhood. Check out Sandy’s, y’all! 1457 Haight Street @Ashbury.
EPISODE #5: Todd Kurnat, Local Artist, Music Hound, Rad Dad
We saw the gorgeous mural pop up one day on Ashbury Street, and simply had to connect with the artist behind these captivating birds (You’ll see ’em in the video! Sadly, the mural was only temporary at a construction site — but lives forever here on HSV Radio!) Meet another fantastic, talented soul from our neighborhood, Todd Kurnat — and his rad son, Oskar!
EPISODE #3: Sonia Quinn, Awesome neighbor and daughter of photographer Elisabeth Fall
I got to know Elisabeth Fall in 2021 when she wandered into Gallery 1506 on Haight Street for the Stanley Mouse exhibit, and we started chatting. Within a few months, I invited her to feature some of her incredible photos in Haight Street Voice — and we’ve been fast friends ever since. Not only is she a fabulous photographer, she’s an epic Mama as well. Her daughter Sonia grew up in the Haight Ashbury, and is a powerhouse just like her mom. I had a lovely hang chatting with these two incredible women. Enjoy!
[Psst! Sonia mentions her dad, Robert Quinn, and his cool artwork: Groovy Frisco. Here’s a little taste. And if you dig his stuff, check it out at groovyfrisco.com!]

EPISODE #2: Woody LaBounty, President of the SF Heritage
EPISODE #1: Barry The Fish Melton, of Country Joe & the Fish (and his awesome buddy, Crowbar!)
